[ Summary ] Recently the number of patients with pancreatic disease has been increasing in our country because of changing of eating habits and an increase in alcohol consumption. In Japan, the trend in eating habits has been for carbohydrate intake to decreasine while fat intake has been increasing. Drinking has also been increasing. Today one cause of chronic pancreatitis is thought to be high alcohol consumption plus high fat and high protein diets or low fat and low protein diets. Conversely, other causes of pancreatic cancer are thought to be smoking, drinking, high fat and high protein diets, etc. In relation to the above information, we can understand why pancreatic disease has been increasing in our country.
Patients with chronic pancreatic conditions tend to have low calorie and low fat diets. We think that malnutrition related to chronic pancreatitis, is aggravated by diets like this. In the future, we think that we need to examine more fully the relationships between a pancreatic disease, race, sex, life style, etc.
