[ Summary ] The prevalence of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) is higher in developed countries than in developing countries, and it is increasing in Japan. Several socio-economical factors such as decline of Helicobacter pylori infection, increased nutrition intake, and increased energy intake, especially fat intake, may have a strong impact on the increase of GERD. The aim of the present report is to investigate the connection between nutritional changes and GERD in Japan.
