[ Summary ] In Japan, the percentage of elderly people in the population has been increasing. Perticular diseases such as diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease are steadily increasing. Because eating habitats affect diseases, a healthy dietary plan is required. Many bio-active substances are found in common foods. Some of these agents are recognized as "Foods for Special Health Uses (FOSHU)" under Japanese law. Vitamin and mineral rich foods are also recognized as "Nutrient-rich Food" under the law. These foods may be useful for developing healthy dietary plans.
