[ Summary ] |
In relation to the progress in diagnostic modalities, earlier diagnosis of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) has become possible. Over 90% of HCCs arise from liver cirrhosis or chronic hepatitis, related to hepatitis C or B viruses, therefore, follow ups, using regular imaging modalities are necessary to find HCCs in the early stages. Ultrasound (US) and dynamic CTs are indispensable in detecting hepatic masses. However, in the US, it has been shown to be difficult to find tumors that are just under the diaphragm in patients with cirrhotic livers. Also, when using CTs, some tumors can not be discovered arterio-portal shunts. Effective use of both should lead to complete screening for HCC. |
