[ Summary ] Current topics related to pH monitoring are reviewed. pH monitoring is a very important examination for the diagnosis and treatment of GERD because of its ability to produce objective assessmensts of GER in the esophagus. The current topics related to pH monitoring are pH monitoring for diagnosis and treatment of atypical GERD, and nocturnal acid breakthrough when pH drops below a level of four even while taking sufficient quantities of PPI. The most important topic may be the development of a wireless pH system, which is free from an electric cord positioned through the nostril.
