| [ Summary ] | The extremely high incidence rates for cancer development in the gall bladder (39.3%) in patients with pancreatico-biliary maljunction, with or without slight dilatation of the choledochus, justify cholecystectomy. However, the incidence of bile duct cancer in this group (2.9%) is still high in comparison with the incidence of bile duct cancer in the general population. Total excision of the extrahepatic bile duct is necessary to prevent the future development of bile duct cancer, especially in pediatric patients. | |
