[ Summary ] Helicobacter pylori is an important etiological factor associated with gastritis and a main factor in the pathogenesis and recurrence of duodenal ulcers in children. Recently, the number of reports of eradication therapy being used for children has increased. Concerning the therapeutic strategies for gastroduodenal ulcers, the eradication of H.pylori is being substituted for the inhibition of gastirc acid secretion alone. However, there are several differences between adults and children in regard to diagnosis of H.pylori infections, diseases to be treated and regimens followed. The state of eradication therapy in children and guidelines for treating Japanese children were noted. It is important that children should be tested for H.pylori infection only if there is a probability of using eradication therapy.
