[ Summary ] A method of diagnosis and eradication treatment for H.pylori infection was approved by the government in Japan, in the year 2000. This new treatment is a great boon for patients with recurrent peptic ulcers, who were compelled to continuously take acid-suppresive drugs. Under the governmental statement, only one new triple treatment, PPI+CAM+AMPC, was approved. A major factor in treatment failure is resistance to the antibiotics used, especially, CAM. The other factors, drug compliance and insufficient acid suppression, must also be considered. The frequency of CAM resistant strains is high in Japan and it is increasing yearly. Therefore, treatment failure due to CAM resistant strains will increase in the near future in Japan. In the case of treatment failure, factors affecting eradication should be investigated.
