[ Summary ] Bleeding ulcers is a condition that we often encounter. It is fatal in cases of heavy bleeding, making its prevention extremely important. The pathogenesis of bleeding ulcers involves a combination of factors, such as H.pylori infection or the taking of NSAIDs. Other factors believed to be involved include steroidial hormones, doses of warfarin, heart failure, diabetes, liver disease, smoking, drinking etc. When a bleeding ulcer patient is H.pylori positive, eradication of H.pylori reduces the risk of recurrent bleeding, although eradication alone is not an adequate preventative measure. For high-risk patients, it is deemed necessary to continually administer anti acid-secretion drugs. When proton-pump inhibitors are administered for bleeding ulcers treatment, there is a resultant risk of coccoid body induction. Therefore it is important to focus on not only the eradication of H.pylori, but also thediagnosis of H.pylori.
