[ Summary ] Transcatheter arterial embolization(TAE) and arterial infusion chemotherapy are standard therapies for the treatment of hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, because local treatments such as percutaneous ethanol injection(PEI) improve the prognosis for small HCC, TAE has been adapted for the treatment of large, multi-nodular HCC. When massive type HCC, and HCC accompanying portal tumor thrombosis(PVTT) are treated with TAE, it is benefical to add PEI or radiation therapy in order to increase therapeutic efficacy. On the other hand, arterial chemo infusion is performed to the patient accompanying advanced PVTT, and the patient not to indicate TAE because of hepatic dysfunction. Both therapies should be performed carefully on the Child's C class patients.
