[ Summary ] Submucosal tumors (SMTs) of the colon are very rare. However recently, they have been found more frequently, with the increasing use of colonoscopy. The more frequently encountered lesions are lipomas, smooth muscle tumors (leiomyomas and leiomyosarcomas), and carcinoid tumors. For the diagnosis of SMTs, colonoscopy and endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) are very useful. 3D-EUS and helical CT are worthy new methods. In the treatment of SMTs, there are three methods-endoscopic treatment, laparoscopic surgery and conventional surgery. Safety and reliability are the most important points in the treatment of SMTs.
