[ Summary ] The majority of candidates for liver transplantation are patients who are being cared for by gastroenterologists and/or hepatologists. Both gastroenterologists and hepatologists must pay attention to the indicated criteria for liver transplantation and not insist on medical treatment only. For example, subacute forms of fulminant hepatic failure and cholestatic liver cirrhosis are good indications of liver transplantation, achieving favorable clinical results. Furthermore, we also treat liver problems with liver transplantation for viral hepatitis, induced liver cirrhosis and recurrent hepatocellular carcinoma. Antiviral prophylaxis and post transplant treatment, as well as adequate resumption of chemotherapy, should be established to assist these transplantation programs.
