[ Summary ] ERCP provides a rich source of information in the diagnosis of pancreatic diseases, especially cancer of the pancreas, as compared to other diagnostic modalities.
On the other hand, ERCP is an invasive diagnostic tool, more so than US, CT or MRCP. Therefore, ERCP will not be used in the first line of pancreatic diagnosis.
In cases of cancer of the pancreas, more than 20% are diagnosed only by observation of branch duct formation. Diagnostic accuracy was 95.27% in our series. In conclusion, ERCP should be applied clinically in cases where endoscopic surgery may be used and there are suspicions of pancreatic carcinoma.
