[ Summary ] The definition and history of duodenal diverticula were described. The incidence of extraluminal duodenal diverticula was shown on the tables. The number of patients tends to increase in proportion to age. Most of the diverticula were seen in the descending part and the medial side of the duodenum. The mechanism by which they develop in the descending part and the medial site was explained. The diverticula are usually asymptomatic but there may be a few patients complaining of epigastric discomfort, who should be diagnosed with duodenal diverticula through use of roentgenological and endoscopic examination.
