[ Summary ] This paper presents the current concept for treatment of hemorrhoids and anal fissures concerning pathogenesis, classification, diagnostic procedures and operative indications.
In the treatment of anal diseases, it is necessary to understand the clinical symptoms and other signs of these diseases. This may be done by using the accurate medical histories and thorough examination of the rectum, including the use of an anorectal scope. Since the symptoms of anal diseases are similar to those of colorectal diseases, we must be careful not to mis-diagnose colorectal diseases, especially cancer, because of confusion with anal disorders. If the symptoms of the patient suggest the possibility of colorectal diseases, additional examinations, such as colonofiber scopy, must be performed.
