[ Summary ] 130 patients with obstructive jaundice were studied. All had unresectable tumors. 61 patients were treated with large bore tube stents and 69 were treated with metallic stents. Significant differences were not recognized in survival rates, or cumulative patency rates. Large bore tube stents could be removed when clogged, but expandable metallic stents could not. Expandable metallic stents were easily inserted compared to large bore tube stents. Any stent has both good and bad points, so a suitable stent for each patient must be selected.
