[ Summary ] Endoscopic pancreatic drainage is performed for pancreatic abscesses and pseudocysts accompanying acute or chronic pancreatitis. We usually perform endoscopic nasopancreatic drainage(ENPD) for case of acute pancreatitis, after sufficient evaluation. ENPD is effective, but for chronic pancreatitis with strictures in the main papilla or the main pancreatic duct may need additional endoscopic procedures. Endoscopic sphincterotomy and endoscopic papilla balloon dilatation are effective for strictures of the main papilla. Endoscopic pancreatic stenting (EPS) using plastic stent is useful for strictures of the main pancreatic duct. We use a 10 Fr plastic stent for EPS because of its longer patency. Since EPS using plastic stents can induce fiblosis of the pancreas, they should be used for limited indications.
