[ Summary ] |
Self-expandable metallic stents provide a new option for the palliative treatment of malignant stenosis associated with advanced esophageal cancer. The covered type of metallic stents is used for esophagotracheal, esophagobronchial, or esophagomediastinal fistulas. The covered type stent does not allow tumor ingrowth but it does allow stent migration. Therefore, covered type stents with anchoring mechanisms, should be devised and be offered to the clinical field in the near future. |
