[ Summary ] Gastrin receptor, identical with central CCK receptor(CCK-B receptor) belongs to a G-protein coupled seven transmembrane receptor superfamily. Using an artificial expression system, the structure-activlty relationship, intracellular signal transduction systems and regulations of the gene expression have been elucidated. Furthermore, specific synthetic antagonists and agonists have been developed, facilitating the study of the physiological roles of gastrin receptors in vivo. Although gastrin receptor is important for various central as well as peripheral physiological regulations, it Is not vital for maintenance of life.
