[ Summary ] The quality of life (QOL) for post-treatment of esophageal cancer has been given a great deal of attention, recently. Endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) is the least invasive therapy for mucosal invasive esophageal cancer. EMR is indicated in not only intra-mucosal but also in minimal Submucosal invasive esophageal cancer. Moreover, in untreated patients with primary inoperable squamous cell carcinoma of the esophagus, concurrent chemotherapy the 5-fluorouracil plus cisplatin and radiation proved to be a safe regimen, yielding a satisfactory response with minima1 toxicity. To retain the esophageal stricture, a covered stent is inserted into the esophagus. The new larynx preserving procedure, combining laryngeal suspention and cricopharyngeal myotomy for cervical esophageal cancer, is a favorable operative method for maintaining intelllgible laryngeal speech and good food intake.
