[ Summary ] |
Three essential factors indicating patient well-being are, ability to sleep well, eat well and defecate well. Dyspeptic symptoms, such as epigastric discomfort disturb one of the elements of well-being, "eating-wel1". Various analysis of quality-of-life in dyspeptic subjects show that the dyspeptic symptoms impair quality-of-life in such patients. Population surveys of GI symptoms and behavior patterns show that those who have GI symptoms have a higher frequency of doctors' visits and sleep disturbances, because of extra-GI symptoms. Also, patients with functional dyspepsia show a higher frequency of extra-GI symptoms, such as weakness and shoulder stiffness. |
