[ Summary ] Endoscopic ultlasonography (EUS) is an indispensable means for the diagnosis of intraluminal lesions of the gastrointestinal tract and lymph node swelling. However, it remains difficult to defferentiate between malignant and benign lesions in some cases. Therefore, EUS-guided fine needle aspiration (EUS FNA) cytology or biopsy is a rational method for the diagnosis of intraluminal lesions of the G.I.tract and swelling lymph nodes which are adherent to G.I.tract. The rate of adequate specimens and diagnostic value of EUS FNA in our hospital and the literature reviewed was relatively high and constant. Some non serious complications were encountered. The treatment of choice for gastrointestinal intraluminal lesions, especially myogenic tumors, shoud be decided on not only by using EUS but also EUS-FNA.
