[ Summary ] Endoscopic ultrasonography for duodenal ulcers has been done usiug miniature probes. Endoscopic ultrasonography using a miniature probe is easy and safe.
In active stage duodenal ulcers, a strong echo was exhibited on the surface of the ulcer, and a low echo in the deep portion of the ulcer. In the course of ulcer healing, both echoes diminished in size. Eradication of Helicobacter pylori have promoted ulcer healing. In the scaring stage of deep duodenal ulcers, strong echoes were often observed on the outer part of the duodenal wall. Thus, endoscopic ultrasonography was useful in deciding on the end point of the therapy, and to speculate on the prognosis of the ulcer.
