[ Summary ] In this review, we reported on important role of nitric oxide related to gastric blood flow in alcoholic and NSAID induced mucosal injury. The disturbance of mucosal microcirculation causes acute mucosal injury and the blood flow to the ulcer margin strongly affects the healing of the ulcer healing. NSAIDS cause a decrease of mucosal blood flow and acute mucosal injury, as well as a delay in the healing of acetic acid induced ulcer. NO-releasing NSAIDs, despite their ability to suppressing cyclooxygenase activity, are capable of protecting the G-1 tract and accelerating tissue repair.
