[ Summary ] Laparoscopic cholecystectomy is performed for treatment of cholecystitis and cholelithiasis as the operation of frist choice. Although laparoscopic appendectomy is known to be more beneficial for patients than conventional appendectomy, it is not always performed for appendicial diseases. The reason for this could be that the operative procedures have not been perfected yet and work to do so is still in progress. In this article we introduced not only laparoscopic appendectomy for acute appendicitis, but also laparoscopic cecum resection for a benign tumor of the appendix, such as pseudomyxoma, as well as laparoscopic ileocecal resection for malignant tumors of the appendix. We recommend standard laparoscopic appendectomy without using special instruments. Needless to say, using special instruments such as an ultrasonic scalpel or bipolar electric scissors makes laparoscopic appendectomy easier. We hope many surgeons will use laparoscopic surgery reatment of diseases of the appendix.
