[ Summary ] Acute appendicitis, which is a common disease of the acute abdomen, is in many cases, treated by the residents of surgery as the first case. However, preoperative diagnosis and staging has never been so simple. Surgical management has been indicated by diagnosing the patient's history, the abdominal physical findings, the number of white blood cells, etc. Recent developments in medical instruments have improved diagnostic techniques. Progress has been seen in abdominal ultrasonography and computed tomography (CT). The keys to reducing postoperative complications seem are preoperative staging of appendicitis and choices of management, such as procedures, which include skin incision and preoperative administration of antibiotics.
