[ Summary ] In colonoscopic examination, the most important point is the performance of colonoscopy with lessened discomfort and stress for patients. Which type of colonoscope is used that by one person or that by two persons (insertion technique of colonoscope : ITC) is not important. The ITC should be selected based on an endoscopist's circumstances and the patient's condition. However, with improvements in colonoscopes, the control of rotation and left- and right-side angulation has become more convenient. We have made remarkable progress in the insertion of colonoscopes, with the choice of suitable colonoscopes for ITC. As a result, the distinction between ITC by insertion methods for the colonoscope(ISM, e.g. axis-maintenance abbreviated method, alpha-type insertion method, etc.) have become ulclear. The insertion of a colnoscope by one person using an alpha-type insertion method or by two persons using an axis-maintenance abbreviated method may be performed, depending on the situation. In the future, with future improvements in colonoscopes(e.g. Olympus Co. has developed a new colonoscope in which the tention may be adjusted), the selection of an ITC might become a thing of the past.
