[ Summary ] Although recent techniques for co1onoscopy have improved with the advances in instrument and insertion technique, patients still suffer a great deal of discomfort during examination. One of the most difficult points is keeping the sigmoid colon in a straight position. A sliding tube is widely used for this purpose. After the sigmoid colon is straightened by extracting and rotating the scope, the s1iding tube is introduced beyond the sigmoid colon under fluoroscopic observation. With this method, the scope can be inserted into the ileocecal area within 3 to 6 minutes.
