[ Summary ] Because of the unclear definitons of endoscopic gastritis in clinical aplications, it is difficult to easily discuss the discrepancies between endoscopic gastntls and histological gastritis. It would be better to investigate which endoscopic findings correspond to histological diagnoses. In our criteria, endoscopic atrophic changes which are diagnosed by the location of the atrophic border, correlate well with histological atrophic gastritis. Endoscopic erosive changes are not related to histological gastritis. On the other hand, the possibility of endoscopic evaluation of histological inflammation is still unclear.
