| [ Summary ] | Biliary dyskinesia is a disease caused by biliary dysfunction, which can display miscelaneous symptoms including pain like gallstone attacks. Biliary function is controlled by the autonomic nervous system and a great number of hormones, including cholecystokinine. We can evaluate biliary function using real-time ultrasonography and endoscopic manometry. In patients with irritable bowel syndrome or non-ulcer dyspepsia, high-rates of complications of this disease have been observed. Therefore, the concept of "Irritable Gut" has been proposed. For the diagnosis and treatment of this disease, it is important to rule out other organic diseases including gallstone. Patients' complaints should be viewed as functional disorders. From a psychological point of view, patients with biliary dyskinesia often display symptoms of depression. We would like to recommend the use of antidepressants in the treatment of this disease. |
