[ Summary ] The influence of psychosocial factors on peptic ulcers has often been a topic of debate for nearly 50 years. In this paper,we showed a representative review of peptic ulcer as psychosomatic disorder. On the other hand, many physicians have recently believe that the cause of peptic ulcers is H.pylori infection. We considered that H. pylori infection was one of the biological problems associated with the biopsyco-social model for peptic ulcers.
Psychosomatic therapy for peptic ulcers is used in almost the same way as H2 blockers, PPI and others. Furthermore, we use antidepressants, benzodiazepines, and other agents. In psychosocial treatment, autogenic training, stress management, biofeedback and other techniques are employed. It is important to select the proper treatment for each case.
