[ Summary ] Adenomyomatosis of the gailbladder is characterized as a benign hypertrophic disease of the gallbladder wall with the growth of the Rokitansky-Aschoff sinus. There are four types of adenomyomatosis ; generalized, segmental, fundal and mixed type. Diagnosis is made using transabdominal US (conventional, color Doppler and harmonic imaging), endoscopic ultrasonography, abdominal CT, endoscopic retrograde cholangiography(ERO and intraductal ultrasonography. We conservatively observed defined cases of the adenomyomatosis, and surgically treated the cases which displayed symptoms or cases in which : there was difficulty in differentiating them from the malignancy. Recently, the use of a special guidewire has made it possible to obtain specimens of the gallbladder through the transpapillary route. This technique may become a useful diagnostic method for gallbladder disease in the near future.
