In the field of Kampo medicine, many studies have been performed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of Kampo compounds or to compare their clinical effectiveness with that of Western medicines. However, it is not uncommon for such studies to obtain seemingly inconclusive results due to statistical problems or defects in the study design prior to statistical analysis. From the ethical viewpoint, such defective clinical studies should not be allowed. This article describes major statistical problems in study processes, prior to statistical analysis, in clinical studies of Kampo medicine. |
