[ Summary ] |
Non-ulcer dyspepsia (NUD) has very common clinical symptoms, such as abdominal distension, bloating, nausea, and post-prandial discomfort. Disturbed gastrointestinal motility is common in these patients, and appears to play a major role in the development of NUD. Despite the many drugs (e.g.prokinetic agents, H2 blockers) introduced, NUD is often resistant to treatments because of its heterogeneity (reflux-like, dysmotility-like, ulcer-like and non-specific dyspepsia). Among many traditional Chinese herbal recipes, some are indicated to be effective for NUD. The traditional Chinese herbal medicine "Rikkunsi-to" has a prokinetic action on gastrointestinal motility, and has clear clinical effects on NUD. |
