[ Summary ] Laparoscopic surgery is an innovative and minimally invasive surgery. The operative technique of laparoscopic surgery is quite different from conventional surgery, and is a video-monitored operation using specially designed instruments. Benign diseases, such as gallstones, early stage cancer and some advanced cancers of the gastro-intestinal tract are good indications for laparoscopic surgery. In order to proceed with this technique safely and extensively, it is important to establish an adequate educational program including laboratory training for young practitioners.
