[ Summary ] We describe herein bowel movement abnomalities in the elderly. Those individuals are said to be more frequently constipated, and indeed the incidence of complaints increases with age. In general, women are much more often consipated than men. In the elderly, bifidobacteria decrease and clostridium perfringens, lactobacilli and micrococcaceae increase significantly. Changes in the composition of intestinal microflora, especially bifidbacteria with aging, lead to constipation in the elderly.
