[ Summary ] Precise diagnosis is very important for choosing the therapeutic modality in cases with early esophageal cancer.
The indications for endoscopic mucosal resection (EMR) are suitable for cases with m1-m2 cancer invasion. In cases exceeding EMR, 3 field dissection and thoracoscopic esophagectomy with lymphadenectomy should be carried out.
As a means of preserving the esophagus, photodynamic therapy, promising therapeutic strategy, is warranted.
At present, with informed consent for treatment of early esophageal cancer, the advantages and disadvantages of each modality should be explained to the patient and family. Then, allow them to select the type of treatment themselves.
