[ Summary ] The prevention of alcoholic liver disease appears simple : Do not drink or drink less. However, in everyday practice, achieving this goal is very difficult because of the concomitant presence of alcohol dependence in patients have severe alcoholic liver disease. Various prognostic aspects of alcoholic liver disease are presented herein : The influence of alcoholism treatment, the sudden alcoholic death syndrome, that is a frequent eventuality in middle-aged heavy drinkers, concomitant hepatitis virus B or C infection, the risk of hepatocellular carcinoma, cyanamide-associated alcoholic liver disease, and the prognostic impact of concurrent diabetes mellitus.
