[ Summary ] The role of a registered dietitian in the Osteoporosis Liaison Service (OLS) is to assess the patient's nutritional status and provide appropriate guidance. The basis for the nutritional guidance for osteoporosis is to ingest appropriate amounts of nutrients important for bone health, such as calcium, vitamin D2 and vitamin K, as well as appropriate amounts of calories and nutrients. In the case of the elderly, sarcopenia may occur when the energy and protein intake is insufficient. Sarcopenia involves a decrease in muscle mass and muscular strength and is associated with an increased risk of falling and fractures. Therefore, in the nutritional guidance for osteoporosis, it is necessary to consider not only the bones but also the muscles.
