[ Summary ] When diet, exercising, and behavioral therapy are ineffective or not showing any improvement of obesity‒related complications, pharmaceutical treatment is the next consideration. Mazindol is the only prescription drug for obesity in Japan at this time. The main developments of the anti‒obesity drug are central low‒molecular compounds, peptide derivatives on food intake regulation, such as GLP‒1, as well as nutrition uptake inhibitors. Over 3% weight reduction, with long‒term improvement of obesity, along with the development of an anti‒obesity drug with limited adverse events is be expected.
