[ Summary ] Obesity has been increasing all over the world, including in Japan. Obesity promotes the risk of many cancers, include colorectal cancer (CRC). Various biochemical parameters affected depend on obesity and the metabolic syndrome effect; however, each relates to colorectal carcinogenesis, but are confounding in vivo. Therefore, it is difficult to explain the mechanism of CRC carcinogenesis by a single phenomenon, but the pathology of CRC is gradually becoming clearer. Bariatric and metabolic surgery is one of the interventions for the prevention of CRC. Recently, new prevention methods such as chemoprevention have been developed to focus on the pathology of obesity and metabolic syndrome. Further developments are expected.
