[ Summary ] Radical resection can have a certain therapeutic effect on colorectal cancer even if it is a recurrent case, and prognosis can improve if recurrent lesions are found in a resectable state. Therefore, appropriate postoperative surveillance is necessary. In Japan, intensive surveillance has been conducted as compared with the West and the United States, contributing to the early detection of recurrent lesions. In the future, an optimal surveillance protocol, including the viewpoint of medical economics, should be established and guidelines should be reviewed in accordance with advanced medical technology. In this article, surveillance after surgical resection of colorectal cancer is explained on the basis of the Japanese guidelines, and the actual surveillance after surgical resection in our hospital is described mainly in early colon cancer.
