[ Summary ] |
Compared to neoplastic colorectal polyps, non-neoplastic polyps such as hyperplastic polyps, inflammatory polyps and muco-submucosal elongated polyps exhibit relatively few instances of canceration and have an extremely low canceration rate. Non-neoplastic colonic polyps are indicated for endoscopic resection when causing bleeding or obstruction, or when differentiation from neoplastic tumors is difficult. After endoscopic resection, follow-ups may be conducted on low-risk groups for metachronous neoplastic polyps. On the other hand, malignant tumors occur in the colon and other organs at high rates with non-neoplastic colonic polyposis such as juvenile polyposis syndrome and Peutz-Jeghers syndrome. For this reason, endoscopic resection and surveillance are recommended. However, clear evidence on the surveillance of non-neoplastic colon polyps and polyposis is lacking, so planning for follow-ups warrants investigation in the future. |
