[ Summary ] FibroScan® is a noninvasive and easy technique to measure liver stiffness. Liver stiffness is related to liver fibrosis and the risk of liver carcinogenesis. It is useful not only in patients with viral hepatitis but also in those with non-viral hepatitis. Controlled attenuation parameter (CAP) measurements are now available and can be used simultaneously with liver stiffness measurements; thus, quantitative evaluation of fatty liver is now possible. Liver stiffness and CAP measurements are expected to be useful for follow-up and evaluation of NASH (nonalcoholic steatohepatitis)/NAFLD (non-alcoholic fatty liver disease) related to diabetes and metabolic syndrome. Moreover, it is used for education, enlightenment, medical examination, due to its quantitativity and objectivity.
