In the era of human genome investigation, researches and physicians worldwide have started to apply human genomic information to precision or personalized medicine, in which tailored prevention, diagnosis and treatment is based on the patient's own genomic information and environmental factors. However, our understanding of the complexity of interactions between genomic and environmental factors on human health is still incomplete. More detailed analysis of large population of the human genome and phenotyping of participants in diverse cohorts worldwide is the key to achieve these goals. This review will summarize the role of "genome banks" in the future of precision (personalized) medicine along with the Tohoku Medical Megabank project. |
