[ Summary ] |
Osteoporosis is associated with an increased risk of fractures, which are most commonly induced by falls. Recent randomized controlled trials and meta-analyses focusing on this issue have reported significant effects of exercise on reducing fall risks. Exercise programs have been shown to be important for the prevention of fall-related fractures in patients with osteoporosis. However, few studies have evaluated the effect of exercise on patients with osteoporosis who have already suffered a fracture. Exercise programs concentrating on muscular strength in the lower extremities and back extensors, as well as dynamic balance are recommended to have a positive effect on reducing osteoporotic fractures. |
