[ Summary ] |
The specific pathological features of osteoarticular lesions associated with dialysis-related amyloidosis are infiltration of macrophages (Mphi) with phagocytosis of amyloid deposition. The Mphi generate cytokines which stimulate osteoclast bone absorption. It is suggested that macrophage migration inhibitory factor (MIF), osteopontin (OPN) which stimulates Mphi migration, MMP-1 and VEGF also contribute pathological processes Biocompatibility of the dialyser membrane and ultrapurification of the dialysate are also considered to be associated with prevention of disease progression. Amyloid deposition, reactive infiltration of Mphi and surrounding cytokine circumstances may contribute to the pathogenesis of dialysis-related amyloidosis. |
