[ Summary ] |
PTHrP functions mainly locally as a paracrine/autocrine factor, while PTH works as an endocrine hormone. Studies of PTHrP-/- mice revealed that PTHrP regulates differentiation of growth plate chondrocytes. Subsequent studies of transgenic mice overexpressing PTHrP in cartilage and rescued PTHrP-knockout mice showed that it also plays an important role in other tissues. This article focuses on recently discovered variable physiological functions of PTHrP. |
