【 要旨 】 間接熱量測定法は安静時エネルギー消費量を正確に評価できる方法であり，推定式の利用が困難な患者にはきわめて有用な検査法である．とくに，透析患者はエネルギー消費量を増減させる因子を複数有している場合が多く，体重（ドライウエイト）は透析の際に病態に応じて適宜調整されるため，推定式から算出する場合は誤差を招きやすい．低栄養や異化の亢進は透析患者の生命予後やQOLに影響を及ぼすため，それらを防ぐためにも間接熱量計による正確な実測が有用といえる．また，間接熱量計は呼吸商や運動耐容能の評価にも活用でき，これらの指標もまた透析患者の栄養管理や予後予測に役立つ可能性を秘めている．
