Children receiving chronic hemodialysis (HD) thrice a week face several challenges. The need for intensive HD with more frequent and/or prolonged dialysis duration is being recognized and is being attempted in clinical practice. Reports describing intensive HD have shown improved quality of life and growth and prospective positive effects in these patients. The most important obstacles to widespread application of intensified HD programs are shortage of adequate funds and health care personnel. |
